High everyone. I was wondering if any of you turners ever heard of a lathe accessory that was used on the lathe when wanting to turn a ball. I heard from someone that they were common years ago but no longer available, at least in his knowledge. Can anyone tell me anything about this? Mitch

What timing. I just found this from Vermec. I think it may be what you are looking for.

All, I did a Google on "Sphere Cutting Jig" and came up with http://vermec.tripod.com/id1.html that has a picture of this little gem.:)

Hope it helps.

I found a PDF info sheet on this one, but it's $325! I'll let you decide for yourself, but unless you're going to be doing hundreds of balls, I'd just get a new gouge and a video on how to make spheres!

Yep that is a bit pricey. I guess I will stick with the gouge as Ben said.

Hi all. I have been using ball turning jigs for a couple of years now, all constructed from the design in "David Springett's" book Woodturning Wizadry (http://www.woodcraft.com/family.aspx?FamilyID=5724) very easy, and not expensive to make, and all from timber or MDF board, apart from the HSS cutter.

Sorry, my mistake. It was Vermac, not Vic Mark. The link is http://vermec.tripod.com/imagelib/sitebuilder/misc/show_image.html?linkedwidth=actual&linkpath=http://www.vermec.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/spherecuttingjig.jpg&target=tlx_new

That where I seen a gaget like that. I was racking my brain. Looks like it would do the same thing. Look at the spheres he turns out. Besides you can save yourself $315.79:)
