View Full Version : Fuming BEFORE gluing

There are a few pieces of a table I am making that I would like to fume before assembly and gluing. I don't think there will be a problem, but is there any wisdom that says fuming prior to gluing diminishes wood's ability to form a strong joint?
Thanks,

There was an article on fuming a few years ago in Fine woodworking. Maybe if you dig up a copy on that article it would tell you in there.
Hope that helps.

I don't think fuming affects gluing. I have fumed 2 projects but I did them assembled so I don't know for sure.
Make sure that you have a respirator with ammonia cartridges and NON-VENTED eye protection. (I ended up using a scuba mask).
Have you found a source for 25% aqueous ammonia ? That took me a while.
