I just got notice that our local Steel city dealer has the 3 hp rt tilt with 50" fence marked to about 1100...while the left tilt is 1600+. any issues with right tilt? I really like the steel city, although amazon has the new jet marked down and also w/ free delivery. not sure how much i will use the ts in the near future as i am returning to evening classes in the fall, but do want to upgrade from my current craftsman saw...would the steel city suffice even though it is right tilt?

John: I have a left tilt SC TS and am very satisfied with it. I don't know what usability differences there are between a right tilt and a left tilt but I bet someone on the forum does.

Jay and Robert, there are two relatively recent threads discussing this very issue.

http://www.sawmillcreek.org/showthre...ight=left+tilt (http://www.sawmillcreek.org/showthread.php?t=45124&highlight=left+tilt)

and

http://www.sawmillcreek.org/showthre...ight=left+tilt (http://www.sawmillcreek.org/showthread.php?t=44266&highlight=left+tilt)

Might want to check these out before you go any further. Otherwise, we will be chewing old cabbage. (That's an old Southern expression, if anyone cares.)

The only thing that has changed since these threads/posts were made is that IF we were in the market for a new TS, it would be a right-tilt Steel City rather than the Delta Unisaw. What we've seen of the SCTW machines have converted us!!

Left tilt: when you do a bevel cut, the offcut is not between the fence and the blade with default settings. When you change the blade, you need to recalibrate your fence measuring device.

Right tile: default setting will put the offcut of a bevel cut between the fence and the blade. But you can just move your fence to the left side. When you change the blade, you don't have to recalibrate your fence measuring device.

Depends on how often you do bevel cuts compared to changing your blades, I think.
