I am looking for a source for turquoise - both crushed and chunked. I found a few "dealers" on the internet - but who to trust and what is a good price? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Larry

In my silversmithing days, I used Santa Fe Jewelry Supply, Rio Grande Jewelry supply, and Fire Mountain. I don't know if either of the first two would have the kind of turquoise you are looking for, but I'd guess Fire Mountain would. All are reputable--Rio Grande probably supplies more jewelers than anywhere else. Fire Mountain is more bead-oriented.

I've used Rio Grande for years. They are pleasant and easy to deal with, even for small orders.

My $.02.

As part of their line of luthier supplies Grizzly sells what they term granules (http://www.grizzly.com/products/Inlace-153-Granules-Turquoise/H2825) and nuggets (http://www.grizzly.com/products/Inlace-153-Nuggets-Turquoise/H2829).

I've not used any of this myself, so I don't know if the prices they're asking are good or what the quality is like.

i find mine at a few local bead or "rock" shops - check to see if you have any in the area. think hippie beaded necklaces or crystals. those shops generally have chunks you can buy - the perk being that you can see what you are getting and then hammer it to your desired size chunks.

I believe Craftsupply has it. They are a reputable turning supply company.
