dead blow hammer

Has anyone made there own dead blow hammer? I have made wood mallets but do not like to use them on finish work. So I was wondering about the replaceable screw in nylon face pieces on store bought hammers. I use a plastic shot filled one know but I enjoyed using the homemade mallet. I would appreciate any help.

I have not made one, but have considered doing so...in several sizes. I have a plastic coated one, but it's "too much" for many jobs and I'd rather have one with a leather striking surface for assembly work.
