Hi all,

For those of you with a Festool RO 150, is the vacuum attachment specific to the Festool dust extractors hose connection or can another vacuum be attached? I have a Fein vacuum that I'm very happy with and would prefer not to get Festools.

Cheers,

KP

Kent -

I use the Fein Turbo II (smaller one) with my Rotex 150. Go to (or check out online) Woodcraft and look for a hose adapter. These have a "3 step" design that will fit the end of the Fein Hose and then cut down to the DC port on the sander......works well for me!

I have the 150 and the fein mini.
I ordered the step adaptor from Coastal Tools . com. for the fein hose.
Its a universal adaptor that fit right on the 150 sander.

So is it a simple push on connection, not a twist lock?

I bought the $50 hose from festool. It works great with my craftsman vac. The hose is pretty nice, but not worth $50. My -$49.98.

You can use any vacuum you want, but you'll want the Festool hose due to the flexible connector...there are several different "shapes" that are used on the Festool tools and that one hose will work with all of them. The Festool hose is very flexible...which is nice when you are tethered with it and also anti-static.

Won't work, Steve. The port is oval. You need the rubber Festool end.

Shop Vac makes a rubber step adapter you can probably find at Lowes.

Edit: Sears has the one I'm talking about too: http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_00917837000P?vName=Tools&cName=Wet-Dry+Vacs&sName=Filters+%26+Accessories

I use the Festool hose with my Fein. I recall it being around $35 since there's no sense getting the anti-static version. The connection to the Fein doesn't have the anti-static features built in to the Festool vac. I like the Festool hose better than the Fein one. It fits all my tools, including PC, DW, Delta, and my Jointech router table fence. You'll definitely want it if you get one of the Festool circular saws.

Jim, the rubber Fein step adapter (cut down to reveal 2nd step) is sufficiently flexible to fit the oval Festool ports (I just tried it on the OF1010 -- although the newer RO150FEQ has a round port if that is what Kent plans to use).

Strange. Mines has been on there for 2-3 years now.

Guess I'll have to post a pic for Jim, huh. ;)

The Fein step Adapter once it's cut back to be the proper size has enough flex to work. It works great as a matter of fact.

Ok....I stand corrected. Does the step adapter clear the workpiece ok?

One reason for the price of the Festool hose is that it's anti-static. Notice it's never caked in sawdust? Sorry I can't help you with the adaptivity though.:)

I don't believe the $50 hose in question is anti-static. For that you pay even more.

But that said, anti-static is only good and only works if your vacuum grounds the hose and the Festool does, the Fein will not. So no reason to buy anti-static for a Fein.

Maybe it's our not so dry climate but I haven't noticed any advantages to Festool's anti-static hose. I have a Fein and Festool vac and the hose on the Festool always wants to coil up whereas the Festool hose is more 'relaxed' and doesn't tangle up as easily. The Fein hose is less expensive as well.
