As this was my first time turning Mimosa, I wanted to learn how it behaves while drying so I turned this to finished dimensions while it was sopping wet just a few hours after the tree fell. I am amazed at how stable this wood is while drying.

3 1/2" tall 6 1/4" wide

Beautiful hollow form Arlan! Rich looking wood color and wonderful grain! Nice form and finish! Turn as much of that stuff as you can - great looking wood!

Beauty of a form Arlan and I like the wood too. I had no idea that's what mimosa looked like.

That's so cool!! I never new Mimosa was a dark wood. I've got a large one at work to bring down(in a development area). Guess I need to make sure and get to it before the dozer:). You did a beautiful job with that Arlen. I agree with Steve, I'm anxious to see what else you turn from that!!!

That is a really nice form, and the contrast in the wood color looks awsome. Great job.

Good job Arlan! Mimose is fine turning wood. Recently came across a couple of cants (2-1/2 x 6 x 38") saved from a tree that I cut in 1991. Ends were heavily waxed and there was very minor checking and very minor warping. Nice tight grain, cuts beautifully, makes nice finials. Plan to try ebonizing some. Just been hauling those pieces around (along with a lot of other stuff) for 16 years.

Very nice piece of wood. I really like the contrast and the way that you showed it off.

Thanks everyone! I appreciate all the comments and observations. This wood is a joy to turn, however, while hollowing, dark colored sap collected in places on the outside edge actually leaving a dark stain that was not removed by sanding. I'm not sure if this is a common situation or not. I've got a bowl using this same wood in process.
