And yet another Spalted piece. I had turned a bowl of some spalted Elm I had back last year. I kept the piece of leftover from the bandsaw cutout. I got to looking at it the other day and thought what the heck, see if you can turn something with it. If you can picture turning this on it's side then this is the end of the log and the bowl came out from the 2 wings. Anyway, it's going to be used as a napkin holder. Size is 5 x 2.5. Wall thickness is less than 1/16 and all I was hearing was a hollow sound when I was turning it. Finish is Danish oil and tripoli buffed. The spalting is just "wild" in this thing.

Interesting form - beautiful wood! I also have a hard time throwing wood away - until it cracks to the point that I know I can't use it for anything. Nice use for a piece of wood most would have thrown out. Beautiful spalting - great conversation piece!

Should work well with the sweetner holder. Now to make some dinner plates to match.
