Hey Gang,

Will Grizzly molding knives fit a Woodmaster Model 712 Planer/molder? I am doing woodworking for a hobby. Is there a better place to get standard Pattern molding knives? Thanks

Joe

Woodmasters are unique in that they have more than one head type to hold moulding knives. In addition to the standard head which holds smoth back 1/4 knives they also offer a head to hold corrugated back knives. If you are looking for the smooth back knives they should be a direct fit. Grizzly knives are cast. Many of the Woodmaster knives are ground M2 but as I am sure you found out are more expensive. Jet and Shop fox also offer standard patterns and are cast. The difference between the two is obvious if you have them both together. For the extra expense you get fewer lines to sand out and it will last longer between sharpenings. Lots of folks run the cast knives for short runs just fine.

Give the Woodmaster people a call. They can help you out and tell you what you'll need. They have a catalogue with their standard knife profiles. If you google molding knife there's other companies with catalogues you can order from for your planer.
