I am having a difficult time with 24ga spiral duct. I need to go up to the ceiling so I cut a 18" piece of 7" spiral, crimped it (with great difficulty) using professional crimper/pliers. Crimping the spiral bead is almost impossible. I stuffed it into the Gorilla, tapped it home with a block of wood and hammmer and watched it fall out when I tried to insert the elbow. After several tries, I caulked it into the opening and went into the house for the night while the caulk dries.

I know I am going to knock it loose when I start to put the other pieces onto it tomorrow. What am I doing wrong?

Jerry,

I am going through the same process with my Gorilla right now but with snap-loc.....I drilled 3 holes and riveted the pipe into the intake. Then I taped using foil tape and covered the rivets. The caulk will probably handle it after the caulk dries.

Good luck!

Jerry, spiral isn't normally crimped...connectors for the purpose are used between sections.

I too am wondering why you are crimping the 7" spiral?

What type of connector did you use between the pipe and the Gorilla?

Jim is correct. Spiral pipe does not get crimped. You should use a coupling. They come in female or male versions.

Wow, thanks guys. My hand is still sore from yesterday's effort at crimping 24ga spiral overlaps. Even tried grinding it down to fit inside the 7" Gorilla inlet, but then the pipe began to unspiral.

I will buy the connectors and be happy!
