Now that I'm going back to school part time along with working a full-time job, I don't exactly have a whole lot of time for woodworking anymore. However, this afternoon I was able to spend a couple of hours in the shop and was able to turn this cherry bowl. It measures approximately 7" in diameter and 3.5" deep.

This was the first project I was able to use my Sorby Sandmaster with the sanding discs I ordered from Industrial Abrasives. I sanded it to 600 grit with the Sandmaster and then switched to the Micro Mesh and sanded to 12,000 grit. I finished it off with Shellawax Liquid Friction Polish and a coat of Renaissance Wax. The pictures really does not do the bowl justice (I really need to invest in a small photo booth.)

If anyone is interested, here is the link to the 2" H&L pads that work with the Sandmaster (http://www.riverweb.com:8002/(SessionID=1f34b5f459d20e2973eab8aab4bcb312)/01711.html) - the pads are only $5 per pack of 25.

It feels good to step away from the seriousness of school and work and do a little turning.

Tim,

That's a very nice bowl. I particularly like the rim. Well done.

Now, get back to your books!

Very nice work Tim! You can sure tell that the bowl was sanded to 12,000 - looks great! Glad you had the chance to take a break from school/work - looking forward to seeing some more of your turnings real soon!

When you look at a bowl like this one, you can just tell when a man takes pains to get it right. Beautiful work. The break from school was worth the time, wasn't it...
It looks a lot like our Ash, here in NW Texas, or some Honey Locust from Oklahoma...
Well done, Tim! Exquisite finish!

It looks great Tim! It looks like the rim is really interesting. I know you don't have much time, but a straight on profile shot would be nice.

That is a very nice bowl, but it looks like Ash, or maybe R/Oak, not Cherry. Cherry does not have open grain.

Very nice piece of work Tim. I too like the rim and also the shape. It is always nice to see an unusual design that works :D:D
