Hi everyone,

Moved into a new building and need a fume extractor. Currently I have a GCC Mercury 25 watt machine. Mostly what I engrave are industrial tags using Rowmark or IPP plastic. Sometimes it get pretty smelly even with the blower unit with charcol in the box. I really need a descent fume extractor so I don't need to put a hole through the cinder block.
Where can I find a fume extractor in the United States and how much am I looking at?

Thank you,
Craig

You could try contacting Purex for as quote. They are a UK company but have a USA office. I have come across their name many times as they have a unit specifically for lasers. I have not actually seen or used one. You would have to contact them for pricing.

Search on "Purex" and "fume extractor" or "fume extraction".

You might be able to find one on the surplus market, but you could assume that it would need a new set of filters. Sometimes they are sold as "dust collectors" as the surplus equipment places aren't sure what to call them.

GCC in the UK actually shows what appears to be Purex units on their website. That might give you an idea of which model.

Trotec has a dandy extraction unit. Very good at handling odors. I'd buy it in a heart beat if I were to come into a bunch of extra $$$$.

We use a duster 2000 for our shop

Works great removes dust as well as the smell. Pricey but well worth it. You can get them through Grimco.com

If you are going to run a lot of material and not exhaust any of it outside, you want to make sure you buy a very good air filtration system. Any of the small units will work fine for a little while, but most of them have such small filters in them, that they plug up pretty quickly.

The ULS rep in the Twin Cities, John Volkmar handles a nice unit. You might try contacting him. His company is Recognition Products & Equipment. You can PM me if you need better contact info.

Or you can contact a great supplier of air filtration uniits: Donaldson - Torrit. They make some really nice air filtration units.

I got the Quatro SPH-400 Series after hearing about it from my laser dealer, Engraving Concepts. I had an issue with the HEPA filter getting clogged very quickly. We're not really sure what happened, but they ended up shipping me 2 HEPA filters, no charge, giving me a great price on 6 replacement filters, and sending me a different lid to try. So far, so good. It's quiet, does the job, and is half the cost of the Purex. I paid $2k for mine.
