I just finished a pair of these pedestal tables. I am really glad i made two! I have made the mistake in the past of only making one of something...

The legs are walnut with a maple spline at the 45.
The center blocks are 8/4 Birdseye Maple.
The tops are Birdseye Maple with some amazing figure in them. (I don't have any really good pictures of the tops unfortunately.... I'll get some)
I used a Tung Oil finish on them, this is the first time I've used that and i am really happy with it.

Cheers,
Nick

Is that the angle of the grain on the top, or did you bevel the joints for glue up?

That is beautiful piece, esp the top.

nope just edge glued the tops with a simple chamfered edge. the "stripes" you see are the eyes in the grain where i made the end cuts.

I think that is the growth rings of the tree...if I'm not mistaken.

yes your right they are the rings, oops! but if you look at the lighter colors that go out radially from the rings, those are the eyes i was talking about.
