The Wood Speaks To Me

I start a piece with a design in my mind and sometimes it comes out as planned, but often the design ends up as a result of the character of the wood. Sometimes I hear the turners and carvers say the wood speaks to them. Sometimes it speaks to me like:

You have got to be kidding.
That will teach you to sharpen a tool.
Try that again and I will give you something you want forget, buddy.
Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha.
I told you, but you would not listen, now look what you did.
I will now let everyone see how really incompetent you are.
Well I be doggone it did work afterall.

Tell us if the wood ever talks to you, and what is said....

Well, let's see what I can do to screw him up this time. Crack, nah been done, warp, nope I see the platter has beat me there as well. Ahhh I know the oldy but goody, flop off the chuck and make him chase me down. Hel'' put me back on the lathe and won't even notice that I cracked in the process!!! MUAHHAHAHAHA

Well, Mine used to say

for about an hour everytime I put a new peice on the lathe
Now it says
" I am moving a lot slower now"
