My hunting partner has unearthed a small cache of old planes, including a really nice 10-1/2 and 10-1/4. He doesn't do any woodworking, so with any luck. . . .

Anyway, he found one that looks like a #5, but it's marked ZENITH on the sides. Kind of an off-the-wall looking beast. Has anyone got any ideas as to where this thing might have come from?

Thanks,

Brian

Zenith by Marshall Wells. I believe made by Sargent for the Hardware company. If it has a Shaws patent frog it is worth a little $$$ if it is a standard model it is just an average plane unless its in fine condition. I would be interested in the 10 1/4 if he decides to sell it and am willing to pay market price or trade for something in my hoard. -Clint

Thanks for the info, Clint. Somehow I suspected you might have the answer.

I'll see about the 10-1/4. He's been asked to go through and evaluate the estate of a uncle who passed last year leaving no other relatives. I've given him basic info insofar as "typical" costs on the online sites, so we'll see.
