I've been asked to build a table to match a customer's tray. After some research, I've noticed two styles of tables- folding and fixed base. I'm trying to keep costs low, so the folding looks intriguing. However, I have no idea how to connect the two legs to allow them to pivot without using ugly hardware. What furniture grade hardware is used for this purpose? Thanks

If you are talking about the legs folding like a scissor, the pivot point could be anything from a dowel to a screw. To connect to the table top, sandwich a dowel in a dado in the rail so it stays permanently attached, the other catches a rabbet in the other rail when you unfold it. Make sense?

I have used these pivot hinges for a similar table and they work great and look great. They are practically invisible if you don't drill the hole all the way through the legs.
