Here is my version from walnut and maple. Seems a bit top heavy so I might try some other design in the next try

How about a small inset of lead in the bottom...? This one is too elegant to pass up!

I Agree, this is really pretty. Why don't you weight the bottom is some way. Drlll a small small in the bottom with a forstner bit and then take a fishing lead sinker and hammer it into place.... something like that.

Beautiful Greg. I like the maple finial with the walnut. I try to keep mine pretty much the length in the book. I haven't had any problems with it being top heavy.

Thanks for the kind feedback.
I am a little higher than the plan calls for by about 1/2 inch. I like the idea of adding some weight, but my wife says it will be ok. I would hate to screw up what I have right now. Maybe this one will become a gift.
