There have been times when I wanted a decent scroll saw but never enough to spend the big bucks for a good one. What’s your opinion of this Rockwell Delta Model 40-440?
Is it a good scroll saw or just an interesting collectable?
There’s a few of them over on OWWM, they do clean up nicely.

Bruce, it's a Rockwell/Delta, which makes it better than a new Delta--I'd want to know more about it--like the type of blades it takes (avoid pin-types like the plague) and how deep the throat is. It's worth a look-see, IMHO.

Mostof them are very hard to get clean cuts on. They are more of a jigsaw then scrollsaw. Atleast any of the older ones I have used vibrated really bad and where not the easiest to use.

We had one in the pattern shop where I worked. They are not a scroll saw, they are a jig saw. I believe the throat is 24" I dont know about the blades. They dont cut as cleanly as a good scroll saw, but are decent. I wouldnt want to do any serious scroll work on it. Go take a look and try it out. See what you think, and consider the blade type as Nancy says. If it only takes pin blades, I'd pass.

Thanks everyone, I think I'll pass on it.
I'd have to push something out the door to make room for it anyway.
