When using a shooting board, does the board somehow get shaved away when it's used or is there some type of stop that keeps the shavings coming off of just the workpiece and not the shooting board? It seems like you'd have to replace the whole board eventually.

I had exactly the same question (as did most people) when first introduced to shooting boards. It seems like a very logical conclusion that the shooting board would be consumed and yet it isn't. Rather than try and explain, here's a link to a very good explanation with pictures.

Thank you so much for posting that-I had the same question 2 weeks ago and it never dawned on me. That's the best tutorial of the sort I have seen!!
