That reminds me of what my friend did at Stanford. As part of his masters in mechanical engineering, they had to build a bicycle out of "paper". It was mostly that rigid cardboard stuff. I visited him around the time they were working on them, and I saw all sorts of ideas.

I don't think this one works though. :) This is (or was) located at a local art museum here. I don't know the artist or really much about it . . . otherwise I'd let you know.
