Ok, the new shop is almost done. I've been putting off getting a cabinet saw until it has a permanent home. That's close enought to start actively looking for the right deal. I've pretty much decided the Powermatic 2000 is the way to go. I've been watching the usual suspects for the major brands. Jets and Deltas go on sale frequently but I've never seen the P2000 budge off the $2300 mark.

So, will this thing ever go on sale or will hell freeze over first.
I'm in no hurry. My Jet contractor's saw still does a fine job.

Thanks for the advice.

I picked mine up from the good guys at Bibb Tool and Cutter. Purchase price was 1975.00 dollars with no tax. They where kind enough to let me use my fathers NJ address to avoid sales tax even though I live in Norcross, GA. They loaded the saw in my Toyota Tacoma with ease. The unloading was something I try to forget. Lucky I have 4 strong neighbors with good backs. When you call just ask for Wes and tell him you want his bottom line price on the saw. He will not steer you wrong. If you have the means to pick up the saw yourself I'm sure this will be your best option.

Have you considered the new jet deluxe xacta.. Seems to have the same features for much le$$. I priced a 5HP 1 phase with 50 inch table for ~1850 with free shipping earlier today.

The deluxe xacta does have me rethinking. I'm willing to pay a fair amount more for the additional quality. How much more? Hard to say, but I'm sure I have a sweet spot. I'm heading down to Tampa this weekend. I'll probably drop by the Woodcraft store in Clearwater, hoping they have both set up so I can compare.

Does anyone know if the Jet has a true riving knife? "True riving knife" defined as being able to make a non-through cut without removing the "riving knife".

For me, if you can't make a non-through cut with the riving knife in place, it's a splitter and not a riving knife.

They always have to be removed for a dado (or lowered at least) because a dado blade is only 8 inches. I believe that it has a 'tall' riving knife standard and an optional low profile which is the european style.
