I'm about to replace the rubber tyres on my bandsaw with urethane. This is the first time I've done a tyre change.

My bandsaw (Inca 340) has aluminium wheels. There are old dabs of rubber adhesive every 2" around the wheel.

What is the best way to remove this old adhesive?

You should use the same thing that auto guys use to remove gaskets and adhesives from engine blocks and heads.

A right angle die grinder with a surface conditioning wheel, something like this,

Take care,

David.

I would try some IPA, or adhesive remover. Not sure I would take a grinder to the wheel though:eek:

Regular old Ronson's lighter fluid will dissolve most adhesives. Before that I might try a heat gun and a scraper if you have one.

Lacquer thinner should remove that adhesive pretty quickly.

Thanks, guys ... I'll try the thinner/fluid approach first ... rather nervous about taking to my bandsaw with a grinder :)
