A pen I made recently. It is a Rhodium and 22K Gold Rollerball Jr Statesman kit dressed in certificated Bethlehem Olive wood inset with Bloodwood cross in a field of the purest white Holly representing the Holy Sacrament.

I made this for the Father who presided over my mother's Memorial Mass. I can't take credit for the blank, other than the design. I had it custom made. I hope to develop the skill to do some inlays like this in the future.

One of the great things about pens as gifts is that every time the recipeint uses it you and your mother will come to his Mind :D:D:D

Now that is a beautiful pen!

Out of curiosity, where did you get the inlay made / submit your design?

Just gorgeous. I echo what others have said. It is a memorable memorial! Nice work on a nice blank on a nice kit.

I asked Lyle Walden from International Association of Penturners and The Pen Shop to make it for me. It is an extrapolation of what they were doing/selling here: http://www.woodpenblanks.com/Cross%20Pen%20Blanks.htm

He has since created one they are calling "The Cardinal" that is Bloodwood blank, Holly oval, Bloodwood cross that is supposed to be stellar. But I like mine for the sentimental value of having the HolyLand Olivewood.

Thanks for all the nice comments folks. I really appreciate it. I'm looking forward to learning to turn other types of stuff; then I'll have something to post here that truly fits the theme.

what is the finish?

Thanks Jeffrey!

The finish is CA (Cyanoacrylate) glue. Crazy Glue (tm), basically. 2 coats of thin CA followed by 3-4 coats of thick CA then sanded smooth and polished with auto polishes.

Being new to SMC I don't know how familiar you all are with that finish. But if anyone needs more details let me know.
