I am in need of a good screw chuck. Any recommendations? Homemade vs. commercial?
Thanks!

I have found that a small face plate, a block of wood and a heavy thread lag bolt works very well and is probably cheaper!...Bill...

I use what Bill described for my bottle stoppers. Just remember if you make your own to either epoxy or CA glue the bolt in place.

Andy,
The my Talon chuck has a screw fitting which the jaws grab very effectively. It comes with the standard chuck.
If you have a chuck, you might check if they make a screw fitting for it.

I bought the bottle stopper kit. It included 10 pieces of exotic wood 10 stoppers and a screw chuck that is treaded for my head stock. I just bought a 8 tpi x 1 beall tap so I can make any of my own chucks to screw on my head stock. It was $17.
