For folks that own a shop air filter like JDS, Jet or Grizzly (the boxes that mount on the ceiling): Does a dust cake develop on the pre-filter and internal filter that may fall off? What is your experience when you service your filters? Illustration shown below.

The reason why I'm asking is that I'm trying to install an air filter system in the space between ceiling joists in my low basement shop, and the filters will be intalled horizontally instead of vertically as per the manufacturer. I'm wondering if it will rain dust cakes.

Wouldn't that really restrict air flow?

Shouldn't be much of a problem if it can be cleaned. How does that system exhaust the air? How do you access the filters to clean them? Dick B.
