Hello everybody,
I´m looking for a metric version of the Leigh D4R jig. The price for it here in Germany is just enormous, I figured that it might be possible to get it at Lee Valley, ship it over, pay transport and custom fees and still save money.
Problem No.1: I did not receive an answer yet from Lee Valley, but Highland told me that they can not ship to a country which has a dealership (makes sense if you want to keep the price up).
Problem No.2: Is the metric version on sale in the US?
If I get a negative answer from LV (in regards to a principal NO) I still could have it shipped to a friend (you may know Mark Bachler, the very famous Wisconsin cabinetmaker :)) and then FedExed to good old Germany.
To make a long story short: Does somebody know if a metric version is available somewhere in the states?

Herzlichen Gruß, Gott erhalte das ehrbare Handwerk, Jochen

Jochen,

Here is the Leigh Industries contact information for U.S.A. and Canada. It lists email contact addresses for Sales and Technical Support. They should be able to recommend a dealer if one is available.

Jochen, welcome to SMC!

I have never seen a "metric" version of the Leigh jig called out in any ads or online stores that service North America. That doesn't necessarily mean it's not available, but it might require special order.

Jochen,

Jim is correct. I called the Leigh factory and was told that metric versions are readily available in the states but might require special order. When asked about pricing, the customer service person stated that would depend on the distributor but it shouldn't make a difference.

What makes it metric - just the scales on the pins/tails guide? If so, I would think that Leigh could trade a standard version for a metric one.

Will that also require metric DT router bits?

Hello guys,
the only difference should be the scales, the router bits are the same. Thank you for the info so far, great help!

Can you just order the metric scales as a replacement parts from leigh and buy a used D4R off of ebay for $300 US dollars? I dont know what that works out to be in German currency.
