This box after turning has been worked out with Arbortech. Fantastic instrument for carving, but one has to get used to it as it eats the wood like an entire army left without food for a month. To smooth it up you need some nice files.
The wood was left raw without finish
Maximum diameter 28 cm.

The shape is inspired from the fruit of nigella damascene. Mother nature is a well of inspiration

Claude,
I love that box! It is beautiful with well executed carving. 28 cm is pretty large for a box unless you made a typo and meant mm. I'd love to see more of your work.

That is a great piece. Congratulations on your workmanship. Can you post a picture of it open?
It will be interesting to see it made of a bit of darker wood. Perhaps cherry not a whole lot of grain to detract. In any case, it looks fabulous.

Man that is a great box. I don't have enough artistic talent to visualize something like that unless I was going to copy it. Come to think of it I couldn't do something like that even if I did have a pattern.

Claude , very nice, the " crown" sets it off for sure.

When I was in high school our drama /shakespeare teacher has us do " Two Gentlemen of Verona" for the student body, I played one of the 3 robbers ( the one with one line) my girl friend play the lead female role , when we went to rob them I accidently stuck the lead male with my sword ( yea ;) ) as he was trying to make time with her and then cut my finger putting the sword back in the scabard. the guy is Bruce Williams of Williams and Ree country western singers/cooking /comedians.My guess is this play has been done once or twice in your home town schools ....:D

I am sorry not to have come to this thread for a while.
I do not deserve any compliments as this very fantastic opera was performed by:
Dominique Flamme, a wonderful French Artist.

I urge you to look at his website and as you will see, most of his work is inspired bye nature, whether fruit, shells or any other nature shape.
