Help wiring outlet for new machine

I'm getting a new drum sander today that requires a 30amp circuit. I've installed the breaker but the only receptacle I could find at the home center was an L5-30P. The manual for the machine recommends an L6-30P. What is the difference? They are both rated for 30A 250V. Do I need the L6-30 or will the L5-30 be ok?

An L5-30 is a 120 volt receptacle, so no, you cannot use this. I am surprised, because an L6-30 should be more common at a home center than an L5-30.

The L5-30 is a 125v device, not 250v device. The L6-30 is one device you can use if your sander is a 250v machine.

L5-30P is meant for 120V/30A which I think is pretty rare to see. L6-30P is meant for 240V/30A, which is a lot more common.

The NEMA 5-XX series is for 125v, 6-XX is for 250v.

Wow, thanks guys. The funny thing is the english description says 30A-125V and the spanish side says 30A - 125/250V. Guess I looked at the wrong side!

Spanish tools can work on 110/220 without alternate wiring. They are just more efficient and work harder :D Just Jokes
