This is my Board jack in use.

It uses a 1/2" dowel for the back support and the locking mechanism is just two small wood screws sticking thru the front support.

it is infinately adjustable, but you need to push the front nose of the support down to engage the screw tips into the upright post so it won''t slip.
This shows the slight taper on the top of the front support necessary for clearance when tipping it to move it up and down.
