With the ice storm that hit Oklahoma, I've been seeing all this wood laying by the curb in Tulsa waiting to go to the landfill and it's been breaking my heart. A couple of friends from work who know that I turn told me that they had some stuff down. Last saturday I got a pickup truck load of Black Walnut and yesterday I got a pickup truck load of Redbud. Here are some pictures of the walnut, redbud and my Rikon I'm cutting it up with...

Some great material there! That feather in the walnut will be outstanding on any platter or shallow bowl you might consider... ;)

Bill,
Nice gloat! Make sure you seal the wood asap. Redbud is pretty wood but it will crack on you quickly if not properly sealed (DAMHIKT).

Thanks everybody... been anchor sealing as I cut 'cause you guys are right.. this stuff cracks fast! I've got a rough turned bowl from the walnut... I'll get a few more and some from the redbud... then comes the wait... ugh.

Brad... that redbud tree was a freak of nature... at the base, it looks like it started life ast 4 or 5 trees... they "merged" together and then split to a fork further up the trunk... there is going to be a lot of exciting discoveries as I cut that beast up.

Tom... "Couple of hours" :) I've spent a day fabricating an outfeed table for the bandsaw and I'm currently working on a jig for holding the logs to safely mill them down. Told SWMBO I need shelves... lots of shelves :)
