A different kind of cyclone

We're all familiar with cyclones use of centrifigal separation to clean dust out of air, but here's a different version. http://www.lakos.com/products/Prod-IHB.htm uses the same principal to clean dirt out of water.

I keep KOI and that technology has been used for many years to help keep the water clean. The ones we use look more like the ones on dust collectors.

In the trade (plumbing) we call them silt separaters. Gets rid of sand and flecks of mica in well water, allowing the pleated filter to last longer between changes.
