Here are some pens I recently made. 2 Reindeer antler pens with 30-06 cartridges and 2 cigar pens with Celtic knots. The knots were a challenge but I think I have a good repeatable process.

The Celtic knot looks really good! I can't quite get mine to line up! May I ask where the heck you got the round cartridge kits! I think they would be good sellers!

Ben:

You can get the cartridge kits here:

Unfortunately they are out of stock right now - must be good sellers!

I don't use a kit for the cartridges, I use fired cartridges. Start with a slimline kit, drill the primer end of the cartridge with a 7mm bit, glue in the tube from the pen kit (you have to shim the bullet end so the tube is centered), assemble as normal. The nib from the slimline kit will fit with any 30 caliber cartridge (308, 30-06, 300WSM, etc.). Some calibers are different lenths, 30-06 is longer so you need a longer tube, 308 is shorter and 300WSM is the same so you can use the standard tube.
I've been using the end of a 270 cartridge to shim the bullet end, the 270 fits inside the 30 caliber cartridge and the 7mm tube fits inside the 270 cartridge. Just CA glue in the 270 and cut off the excess on the bandsaw.
