Some of you fellas are familiar with my Grizzly G0490 story. Well I finally got it together and she's almost ready to make some sawdust. You can check out a pic below. :D

Nice jointer, but please don't tell me you use a collection bag under your Contractors table saw when you have a dust collector sitting right there ! Does any of it get used ? I don't see a spec of dust on ANYTHING !

Nice machine, I was thinking of getting one once the budget recovers from the holidays. Watch out for that foot pedal for the mobile base. It will crunch the top of your foot if you don`t stay out of the way of it when your moving it. I have a black & blue foot from getting run over by my planer.

That is a collection bag, but it has a spot to connect a hose to it. So I use my shop vac to suck dust out the bottom and my dust collector to suck dust out the back.

Thanks Gary. It is a 8 incher with the standard 4 knife cutterhead. I did replace the stockers with carbide tipped knives though. ;)

Its so clean because I'm not actually building anything in there right now and still in the process of getting it set up. ;) Once the dust starts flying it doesn't look nearly as clean.

Mike looks great, they are nice machines! If you don't mind me asking where did you get your floor tiles are they rubber? How easy does the jointer mobile base run on it? Thanks!! George

Those tiles are actually rigid molded polypropylene. They are dead ringers for the Racedeck Circletrac tiles for much less money from Sams club. All of the heavy tools roll very well on the tiles.

Why did you swap the knives for carbide? There have been some interesting discussions recently about carbide knives and I will be interested in seeing how you like them. HSS takes a better edge.

I just don't want to remove, sharpen, and reinstall them as often. In the future I may get one of the Shellix heads for it.

Highly recommend the shelix, I installed on on my G586 jointer and couldn't be happier.

Finally got my 220 hooked up so I could start 'er up. I got to give it to Grizzly, the G0490 really runs smooth. I placed a nickel on the table and hit the start button and that nickel never even wobbled at all.

Although I did really take my time aligning the motor and drive pulleys and am using a link belt.

Its a great jointer. I love the floor also. I am going to get some one to take me to sam's club so I can price them.

On thing the g0490 needs is a longer set screw for the bearing behind the depth gage. (If they haven't changed the design yet) Be careful or one of them will strip. It is due to a space in the machine body. You can feel it with your finger just behind the depth gage.

Do you mean the set screws used for adjusting the eccentric bushings?

BTW ... the tiles are not available in the Sam's club stores, you have to buy them online. See the links here:
