I know I don't turn as much as I would like, but I'm making a small table/desk as a surprise for LOML. The top is white oak left over from some other projects and I'm going to paint the legs and skirt. I started the legs out of some leftover 12/4 maple. Here's the first and start of the second. No patterns to follow, so it all came from my head.

Looks really good Greg! Hate to see you paint the legs... but I am sure they will look great once the project is completed! I am sure the LOYL will be thrilled with the table! Nice work!

Good work, Gregg. No harm in painting the maple. (unless it's figured...) In fact, it's an excellent choice for this kind of table base...hard, smooth and strong.

Looking good so far. Just need to make three more like it - that is when viewed from 10 feet away and they are at least three feet apart.

Don't I know it. Got the second one done and it kinda looks like the first...2 to go. Should have them done today.

I normally don't like to paint wood either, but I think in this case it will look better. I'm mixing qs white oak for the top and really think a painted chassis will look better...I'm constantly rethinking tho. One of the hazards of not using plans.:)

That's going to be a nice looking table. And pulling the design from your head makes it even better and unique.

They look great. Mighty good job duplicating (from what I can see) the pattern. Will make a great table!

OK, just finished turning the last leg. I think they match close enough.

Maple is the perfect choice for table legs, and plain maple has about as much pizzazz as dishwater. Paint on Bro!:):)
