This may be a dumb question:

Is there a (safe) way to modify a circular saw (I have a Hitachi 7 1/4") to add a dust collection port?

Assuming it has no DC port at all, take a look at this thread. Niki can do anything with anything. :D

I added dust collection to an Hitachi C7BD2.

See the following thread for details.

Here's another one.

The basic idea is to take some flexible plastic and put it in front of the blade under the guard, using the rubber stop screw. Then on the back put some hard plastic, either melted into shape or you can buy the bosch dust port, and screw through the metal to hold it on. Silicone is great to seal off the air holes. My CS has pretty darn good dust control now.

Thanks guys. Where can I get a Bosch dust port? I've googled to no avail. Feel like an idiot!:(

Shawn, I'm not actually sure where you can place an online order for them. However, I do know that the friendly people at eurekazone.com have them, because that's where I got mine. Give them a call and I'm sure they will help you out.
