There is an ad in the local paper where a guy is selling an old WT cast iron jointer. Says it has a 1/2 hp cast iron motor and cast iron stand. It is in running condition. I have not seen it yet but will swing by tomorrow to look at it. Wants $275 for it. I've never heard of the brand , anyone have any input? Thanks

Walker Turner is a respected name in industrial tools. However, with only a 1/2 HP motor, it might be a homeowner/hobbiest version and not industrial. Go look - you never know!

Walker Turner made some great equipment and has good value....but Todd is correct you can edge joint , but face jointing would probably take more power

Got to remember back then 1/2hp was really one half HP .. now today with those 6hp vacuum cleaners .. probably has more power than most contractor saws that say 1.5hp on them!!

I'll take a look at it tomorrow, who knows!

Are parts readily aavailable or is it a matter of searching?

A friend gave me on old mid-fifties Walker-Turner jointer. I rebuilt it for use in my shop. Here's the link to some pictures:

VERY nice restoration! Did you have any problems getting parts, i.e. blades, bearings, etc? Does this have the 1/2 hp moter and is it sufficient for face jointing? Thanks.

Ed
Thansk for the link, I'll look it up.

Thanks to all for the responses.

Thanks for the complement. I got inspired and created a little Webpage for it.

It was a lot of work. I restored it for use in my shop. It has a 1/2HP Ball Bearing and it has a unique sound when it runs; sounds like a little Cadillac. I beleive motors of this era were designed for continous use. It seems to have plenty of power.

I can't advice you on the face joint question, I've only used it for edge jointing. The only problems I've had was when the stock was over 4' in length, and heavy. I think there's a lot of value in the jointers with long tables; like Sunhill.

As for parts, all I had to replace was some of the rusted hardware - bolts, nuts, etc. Ball bearing are still good, and I had the knives sharpened.

I have Walker Turner Joiner and i love it. It has a solid steel shell with the motor down below real heavy and when i turn it on, it just hums. Plenty of power.

Robert-- Do you have a source for the knives. I've had mine sharpend a couple of times, and will have to replace them. I have no idea where to begin the hunt.
