Not sure where you are located, but if you check the Columbus Ohio craigslist tools for sale section, there is an old 8" jointer for $300. Great deal if you are close enough and it's big enough for you. And FWIW, it ain't mine, I just saw it advertised.

Now this is my kind of post! ARHHH --- ARHHH ---- ARHHH:D.

The first thing we need to know is do you have 3-phase electricity and a fork lift?
(neither are a requirement but they help)

Do you have specific size machines in mind?

Big bandsaws are a piece of cake, big jointers can be collectors items ($$).

If you haven't previously bought a vintage machine, spend some time on the articles and forum at www.owwm.com (http://www.owwm.com) so that you know what you're getting into.

Pete Skjold's Delta/Crescent band saw would be an excellent machine to start on if it's complete and undamaged.

36" badsaw and 12-16" jointer

Yes a 36" is a "BAD" saw indeed;).

12-16" jointers are nice but there are some 20 and 24 inchers.... lurking out there calling your name.;)
