Hello All,
Is it possible to refinish black marble? Lets say you engrave something on it and want to start over for some "unknown" reason. :) Is there a method to sanding the engraving off and rebuffing to the original finish?

I have a few test pieces I would like to salvage.

Thanks,
Bob Wilson

Yes you can, but how hard it is depends on how deep the engraving was. You have to sand it down to smooth again and then work from 120 to 1000 grit sandpaper, Hit with 1300 and 1500 wet paper and then use a buffer and polish. Or just buy more, it is time consuming unless you have plenty to spare I wouldn't think it was worth it:(.

Also, if you do plan on refinishing it PLEASE, avoid breathing the "dust"!!

If you are doing it by hand you can never get it flat. You allways have dips in it.

Thanks everyone. I thought it could be done but wasn't sure of the steps. I will try your method Sandra and see how it goes.

If your just looking for some black marble to practice on, just take the engraved pieces you have, and spray em black then laser.. Not salable probably, but but it does make for cheap practice or experimental pieces
