i think i remember an article or posting on how best to do inlays across grain with regards to seasonal movement. i'm planning on routing a groove and inlaying maple into a circular africian mahogany table. since the table is relatively small the inlay will be going against the grain (to some degree) almost everywhere. i've glued the mahogany on edge so that should help a little.

are there any guidelines that i need to follow regarding size and depth of the inlay? i was thinking 1/8" - 1/4" inlay width (showing) and about the same for the depth in which it is seated in the mahogany. any suggestions?

thanks,

jud
