A friend had some old skis and asked me to make a "ski" chair for his rec room. Never built a chair before so thought it might be a fun project and I might learn something in the process. I used some 2X redwood deck material I had laying around for the chair. I cut the skis with my metal cutting chop saw and dadoed slots in the ends of the chair for the pieces to fit. Slats under the seat and across the back are screwed into the skis to keep them in place and help support "larger" guys like me. Screws were countersunk and plugged, a little sanding and three coats of Zinsser Quick 15 varnish finished it up. Not a work of art for a furniture gallery but it was fun and looks good in his basement. Hmmmm, I forgot to add a beer holder. Oh well, maybe next time. Thanks for looking.

Great looking chair. And, If you flip it on its back, you have a sled.

that is a great idea and very creative! surely not run-of-the-mill.

thanks for posting it. now you need to find lots of people with ski lodges and this could make you millions. maybe. ;)

Or if you've been to many ski lodges... you'll see these abound. Reminds me of living in Vermont as I was never without a seasons pass to one hill r another. "Squallywood" (Squaw Valley, CA) had a ski shop selling something similar there last visit 3 years ago....
Beer holder??? Thats what the hands are for...;)
Better use of dead skis than I have... collecting dust in a closet now I live in the SUPER FLAT mid west.

here is my version- based on Norm's plan. Lots of fun! I too use a metal cutting blade to cut the ski's.
