I hooked up my Uncle up with a motor for one of the small Lee Valley narrow belt sanders. Nice little package. The Lee Valley sander is well made and a typical good value. For anyone looking for a belt sander and has a motor lying around it’s hard to beat for 50ish bucks.

Edit:

Sorry about the large pics size - should be fixed now.

Also the motor is a Rockwell 1/3 hp reversible. One toggle switch turns it on and off and the other changes direction. It was the last one I had, so not I'm trying to sell anything, just that the sanding frame is well worth the cost.

John, look good to me. There have been several occasions that I wished I had a belt sander like that.

Has anyone used this sanding machine for sharpening chisels and plane blades? I took the sharpening course at Lee Valley and that was one of the tools the instructor used for sharpening. If anyone has used this what are your thoughts for sharpening

Years ago I bought one of the Delta 1" by 30" belt sanders. Cost about 50 bucks and is small enough to put on a shelf when I'm not using it. They are very useful tools. It sharpens, grinds, sands...etc.

I like the one that John found at Lee Valley better except that it doesn't have any covers so dust collection isn't possible. I have been known recently to use my sander to prep black marble for engraving. Yep...with silicon carbide belts your can grind tile and stone :) You can buy felt belts for these sanders for polishing and honing.

Indispensible!

Tyler,

No, I think that is a different 2" belt device. This is a stand alone, you just add a motor.
