Hey all, with a 2hp Cyclone unit with 6" mains and drops reducing to 4" flex hose close to the tool, is it ok to have just one 4" port going at one time? Is that putting any strain on the DC unit? Thanks, Sean

It seems backward but the unit runs harder with more opens then less. It is easier on the unit to have everything closed then to have everything open.

So yes it is ok.

It will not hurt your system...I have a few 4" drops on my 2hp Oneida system and have no issue with them. Less air flow, for sure, but fine for the particular purpose they are there for.

Won't hurt the blower, but there are two things you don't want to do to a cyclone for optimum separation: (1) You don't want to stuff it (feed it too much) and (2) You don't want to starve it (give it too little air). If you use a single 4" port and find that your separation isn't what you were hoping for, try cracking another 4" port somewhere open a little. Not so much that you reduce the suction to the tool you're using too much, but enough to feed your cyclone a little more air.
