Hi guys, Noobie here. A couple of months ago, a number of your Pac NW members helped me unload some excess Alder lumber. That worked out so well, I thought that I would ask for some expert advice.

I am trying to patch wood with holes. I am taping the back and filling the face to stop daylight, yet maintain the natural knotty look. I partially fill the hole so as to create a crater like look rather than a flush (tacky?) look. I have been using a dark brown putty to match the knotty look.

I'm looking for a patch with more of glue-like consistency. It should be easy to squirt into the hole and settle. It need not set up immediately. I have tried 2 part epoxy but can't work fast enough before it sets up in the gun. Silicon caulking doesn't settle.

I also am hoping to not spend a lot of time sanding the face afterwards.

Any ideas?

Auto parts store and get some bondo. Top coat it with a wood filler if you are staining.
