I am going to be a Grandad in April! So, I decided to make something my future granddaughter would treasure so here it is.

The baby rattle is made from maple with ends a safe 1.75 inch diameter. I sanded up to 400 grit and thinking about leaving it unfinished to be on the safe side. Any thoughts to use mineral oil or Beall buff?

I found fellow Creeker Curt Fuller's thread for a captive ring tool from an allen wrench and copied his design. I used an old gardening tool handle I modified to fit with a ferrule cut from a 1/2" copper pipe. This place is a great resource, especially for a new turner. I really appreciate all of the great ideas.

Mike, anything you put on for a finish, em little tots will gnaw off in a day or two.

Forgot, looks great, 1&11/16" is min. 1&3/4" is great.

Curt is a wealth of knowledge, know isn't he!;) Looks like the captive ring tool did its job and made a lovely little rattle. I agree with Bill, forget the finish. As long as it's smooth it'll be OK!
