Will fellow SMC, thought I show off my first attempt at restoring an 80ish planer.I pick this up at an auction, have always wanted something of this quality.I strip down some parts to metal and apply bondo to areas that I had welded. Then apply SW primer to the cabinet parts and to the gears as well. Then sprayed the finish coat. Its not the metallac green, but its close. For some reason I thing that the paint is soft.Maybe over some time it will harden some.I mess up alittle on the strips, but its alittle wide in one area.Installed new blades from Globel Tools, with new bearnings for the cutterhead, new belts and for the bling I used crome acorn nuts on the top and side covers.

Nicely done. Don't worry about the paint softness. It should get harder with age. I used Rustoleum on a restore 6 months ago and it seemed kinda soft also. Everything bounces off of it now.

Very nice! How do you like the rolling base? What model is it.

For those interested I saw a $395 Wedge Bed 18" Delta in the Peoria IL craigslist tonight. It needs some minor parts or so the ad says - lists a phone number. I own a 20" Delta 22-451 already and do not need another project. Just thought this planer overhaul group might be interested in that project.

Beautiful job on this overhaul Carroll!!

where's the cragar's?

come on... you might want to put a blower/supercharger on the top and a grill from a chevelle or camaro or whatever in the middle.

LOL

nice job.

Very nice restore.
What what brand & color of paint did you use?
Where did you get the racing stripe?
I have an old Powermatic 60 jointer that I am getting ready to start on.

Thanks guys for all the nice comments, only us fellow woodworkers knows what is involved in keeping our equipment up to snuff and what it takes to restore one.To answer a few questions, the model is a Powermatic 100 which is the model #'s.Paint that I used is from Sherwin Williams. The primer is their industrial grade and the finish coat is their oil base for metal, very slow drying.Color is not the metallic green that PM applies to their machines in the 80's,but is close. The strips are from the local auto store, they had to order it for me.Now all I need is a good cart to move this 400lbs of ARN. Thanks again Carroll
