OK I have $450 budget for a planer; my delta 22-540 has bit the dust.
I have narrowed down to these delta 22-580 and Ridged 3 knife planer. Dust collection is important. Availability of replacement blades is important. And last bust not least overall performance
I understand that I will have to order a dust hood for the delta.
Any owner feedback would be appreciated.

Are you settled on new? I just picked up a 20" Grizzly for well under your budget on Craigslist... On the other hand, trying to move it is a bit more challenging than the 12/13 inchers...

i have the dewalt 735, a little outside your budget (was $500 on amazon last week)

has built in blower (good dust collection)
ive only owned one planer and used a few but performance is excellent, setup properly there is zero snipe, super smooth finish, no feeding issues etc. i do not have the issues others report of blades dulling quickly.

No problem after I get a second job to pay for an addition to the shop and the electric bills.

Actually the footprint of that planer is not really larger than a portable planer, so if your planer sits on a cart, not difference. It does however use a real 2 or 3 HP motor.

I'd really try to look around and see if you can't swing a DW735. My dad loves his. I have the DW734 (single speed, three knives) and have no complaints.
