How much vacuum is needed for a vacuum chuck setup?

I have a Jet Mini. I have a Gomco vac pump (1/6 hp) that pulls 24 in HG, small pump but I'd like to put it to use if I can.

Appreciate any input on this, thanks!

That should be plenty of vacuum. My setup pulls between 22 and 24 and works just dandy. :)

Rick,

24" of vacuum is enough, but the real concern is the cfm the pump will move. 4 cfm or greater is usually enough for most types of wood.

Thanks for the help.

So this one pulls ok... just dont know about CFM. Now just to figure that one out. Maybe I can find some specs online.

This is a pic of the pump:

The Gomco 402 is designed for heavier suction, as in recovery room, out-patient emergency room, or dental clinic use. It is easily moved and easily stored.

Suction System Includes:

Gauge and precision suction regulating valve
Creates up to 25" vacuum
So far finding specs hasnt been fruitfull. Might have to do some deep googling.

a trick I use if the wood leaks is to use something to seal it. myself I use elmers glue on wood on my vac table I cut on the cnc. something else may be better if your turning but the difference in the seal is big. I was cutting beech and lucky if I could get 10" with a very thin coat of elmers glue on the back of the board I get 20" or so out of the 24" my pump can pull.
