View Full Version : The jury said "YES!"

I entered 3 pieces in a juried art show a while back. I ran a poll on Sawmill Creek about what to enter and a segmented vase won. I designed and entered a large segmented vase, a small segmented vase, and a mesquite bowl with a turquoise inlay in the rim. The large segmented vase was the only one accepted, and I actually thought that it was the best of the three, so that was fine with me. I know from this experience that photographs are what sells the piece, so even though it does not sound like it would be a part of "woodturning", you have to have to work on the presentation end of it to get anywhere! I was too cheap to have someone take "real" photographs, but I did get a camera for my anniversary yesterday (26 years!), so hopefully things will improve in the photo department. The photos below are the ones that I ended up submitting last month. The gallery has a 70-30 split, but the 30% for the gallery is being donated to the 100 Club, which is a non-profit charitable organization providing financial, legal and emotional support to families of first responders who are killed in the line of duty. Thanks for the encouragement from the Creek in helping me to support a worthwhile organization and hopefully buy a few more turning tools in the process! :)
I have previously shown a photo of this vase, but it is 16" tall with 481 pieces of cherry and maple, Waterlox Original finish.

You're a fortunate, talented man, Robert! Best wishes for your future! Beautiful Vase, it is, but it demonstrates an absolute lack of talent in holding onto firewood! :D
Truthfully, I admire anyone with the patience to do this type of exceptional work. I surely do enjoy getting to see it, but I wouldn't try it at all.
