According to my Audubon tree book this is Sweet Birch. Tree came off my property a couple of years ago. Not much grain but there is some nice figure by the knots. Its also extremely light weight and soft. Hard to get a good clean cut on the inside bottom of the bowl, but the wood is so soft it sanded easily.
Size: 6" x 2-1/2"
Finish: Watco natural and beall buffed.
Comments and criticism always welcome.

Looks good Paul! Always nice to find some kind of figure when turning! Nice little bowl!

Not much grain but that lone knot sure makes it a nice piece.

That knot is like a bow on a present. It would have been good without, bland, but good, but that knot makes it great! Also great form and height for the size of the base!

Really nice contrast on the wood and I like how you displayed it.

Thanks everyone for the kind words.
I have bunch more of this wood and have been thinking about trying some of the colored dyes since the wood is so bland. If I do that I'll let you all know how it goes. The other thing this makes good wood for is snowman bodies.

Nice looking birch bowl Paul. I have some River birch that's just been cut about 2 weeks ago, waiting for this knee to heal so I can get to it. Looking for ward to it, hope it looks as good as yours.
