Red Bud trees are grown as ornamentals in yards around South Georgia, and this is the largest one I have ever seen. It was acquired from a buddy of mine when I attended our local turning club meeting in Tifton, GA. He got it from Ashburn, GA as the results of a tornado visiting that town. The bowl is 11.5 inches wide X 4.5 inches high, and finished with lacquer. As always your comments and critiques are welcomed.

Great bowl! I love the contrast between the heartwood, sapwood, and the bark! BTW, good job keeping the bark on! Also, very nice finish.

Beautiful Glenn! We have a lot of redbud trees in Indiana but I don't think they get big enough to turn. At least I've not seen one.

Looks like mesquite to me. Of course, living in Texas, nearly every tree in Texas is mesquite. Nice looking bowl.Max

Glenn, that is great. I agree that is a really large red bud; I am more used to the small understory ones. Thanks.

That is awesome... Redbud is our state tree... and an ornamental... kind of like fruit trees... you are only going to get one if nature takes it down...

That's really striking, nice grain and contrast, and well turned and finished. Looks like a keeper to me.
